Go West Waldo: The Truckster and The Plan
Saturday, June 30th, 2007Vacation. Clark’s adventure is one to always be remembered…why driving gives you so much more. Family Time, cooler lunches at rest areas, and many bathroom breaks. I still hear these words echo in my head before any vacation…”Always get a good once over before you leave”, my Dad always said. The “Waldo Family Truckster” is tuned and ready to go, baby.
Part of any vacation is planning the sights. To make it more interesting you need to be on a quest to find the “Strange and Unusual in Small Town America”. I know my Dad wouldn’t have forced me to go to a lot of this stupid stuff, but I prove to be different with my kids.
We are heading to the Black Hills this year…Four Stone Presidents are calling us. So long the way this is where the STRANGE SIGHTS become a quest to pass the miles. I remember as a kid…seeing a WALL DRUG sign, which seemed like every mile, the build up is alot like “SEE ROCK CITY“. Talk about roadside advertising - road kill. It drove you nutts, I hope it does the same to my boys. <insert evil grin>
Here is just the beginning plan of our South Dakota Quest…thanks to a great website for any family road trip: www.roadsideamerica.com When you look at the picture…and where all the sights are on the main drag…I don’t think my road plan isn’t very orginal.
