Waldo Joins the Polar Bear Club - 1/1/2008
Tuesday, January 1st, 2008What a way to start the New Year off right. Being Head Moron at The Rebel 105.9, I find myself just doing what comes Natural. This is one of the Craziest things I have ever done…with my oldest son ‘Stone (13)…great things to share with the family!
10:30am…22 degrees…January 1st, 2008…Ceasers Creek Lake, North boat ramp…
…on a very snowy and wind whipin’ cold morning…
Even the Bravest Super Hero Strength of ‘Captian DJ” couldn’t resist a shivering moment at the lakes edge, as the winter wind blew over the water, freezing his manly nipples…
This year I joined a bunch of daring swimmers, many were ‘Polar Virgins’…after some warm-ups, loud outburst of wind chill…we posed for a quick picture to capture the moment…forever a memory for generations to come…to ponder “WHY”…
…gave a counntdown…screamed, dunked, and ran out…WOW…that water was freezing! Stone and I are now Officially members of the ‘2008′ Polar Bear’s!
Googled ‘Captain DJ’ and look where else we found him…

A little known tidbit from the annals of American history. The infamous line from the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson that “. . .all men are created equal” , was said to have been penned on the same day in which he joined the inaugural chapter of the Polar Bear Society of greater Philadelphia. The original draft stated ” that at least in cold weather, all men are created equal” and was duly edited by one Benjamin Franklin, who by the way, declined an invitation to join the winter-time aquatic festivities claiming that “he would much prefer to fly a kite in a thunderstorm.” Go figure.
